RIEGL and Aeroscout Announce Strategic Partnership!
RIEGL and Aeroscout have worked closely for many years. As a pioneer in the UAV LiDAR field, Aeroscout has integrated RIEGL scanners into many of their systems. In 2016, we strengthened our long-standing business relationship by entering into a strategic partnership, which both companies expect to benefit their technological exchange and input for future development of highly advanced UAV platforms with integrated LiDAR solutions. This partnership further strengthens both RIEGL and Aeroscout’s UAV LiDAR leadership role in the industry by reinforcing long-term cooperation between the two companies and expands the portfolio of products that RIEGL offers to meet UAV LiDAR mapping demands.
“The cooperation, now based upon our shareholdership in Aeroscout, will further intensify the already existing bond between the two firms and benefit both our companies’ position in the international markets by offering an even broader array of highly advanced, survey-grade LiDAR sensors integrated in complementary UAV/UAS platforms: RIEGL's electrically powered multi-rotor RiCOPTER and Aeroscout's piston-engine powered helicopter-type Scout″, said Dr. Johannes Riegl, RIEGL CEO.
“We are very excited about this partnership with the worldwide known RIEGL company. This partnership motivates us to further concentrate on our UAV system performance and future technical specifications. Together with RIEGL products, we have already been operating our UAV LiDAR solution in many countries world-wide and we know from our field experience how important it is to rely on the right partner under real-world conditions.”, Dr. Christoph Eck, Aeroscout CEO, stated.
RIEGL based in Horn, Austria, is a recognized performance leader in the world of airborne, mobile, terrestrial and unmanned LiDAR based solutions. For almost 40 years in the industry, RIEGL has pushed the limits of LiDAR performance continuously. The RIEGL RiCOPTER, introduced in 2014, was the first integrated surveying-grade UAV LiDAR from one manufacturer. It is a high-performance unmanned multi-rotor aircraft equipped with RIEGL’s VUX-SYS sensor system to offer a fully integrated turnkey solution for professional, small UAV based mapping missions.
Aeroscout is based out of Lucerne, Switzerland. The company was founded in 2005 as a spin-off company of the renowned Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich. The company is headed by Dr. Christoph Eck (CEO), a former doctoral and post-doctoral student of ETH Zurich, who can be considered as one of the pioneers in UAV based mapping, already active in this area for more than 10 years. The Aeroscout Scout is an INS/GNSS controlled unmanned helicopter, particularly well-suited for long endurance (1.5 hours+ flight time) and complex missions. The UAV helicopter provides an attractive payload capacity, which can be used for customizable solutions and requirements.
